December 2010 LATEST!!! 9th Dec. Hamilton Advertiser Click Here: to Read "Villagers protest over plans to expand quarry.
8th Dec. Lanark Gazette Article Click Here: to Read "Quarry Quarell" 7th Dec. Just when it seemed like the lunatics were running the assyllum, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel. Aileen Campbell MSP South of Scotland steps in writes to Archie Strang CHIEF EXEC South Lanarkshire Council, and Mr W. Paterson CEO Paterson's Quarries. Click Here: To Read Aileen's letter to Archie Strang. Click Here: To Read Aileen's letter to Mr Paterson. 4th Dec. With just a few hours notice, around 120 residents from Hillpark and Clannochdyke residential estates brave a frosty, early Saturday morning photo shoot, in protest of the proposed routing of hundreds of 44 tonne quarry trucks a day past their homes and school route.
While we support Paterson's creating a NEW route away from all the villages, there is a different viewpoint from the residents of Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill, see "Blackwood & Kirkmuirhill view" (Blue) button on left navigation panel and read some of the objections already submitted on the "Objections and HOW TO OBJECT" page. ---------------------------------- Compare a similar planning application just 12 months ago and just 12 miles away in North Lanarkshire Council. Read the article (printed in The Wishaw Press) and compare the numbers, then see if you can make sense of what is happening here. In that situation the MSP wholly supported the residents and ALL THREE NLC Councillors AGREED with their constituents that the increase in IMPACT of the additional traffic would be damaging, successfully blocking the application. In SLC, Karen Gillon, Clydesdale South MSP tells Lesmahagow residents environmental impact is minimal, that they will be unaffected and that dust, dirt will not travel from the quarry. ALL THREE SLC CLYDESDALE COUNCILLORS (who all sit on the planning committee) are quoted to be in SUPPORT of the re-routing of substantially more traffic through Lesmahagow. WHY ??? Click Here: To read the article. Compare the numbers and see if you can fathom out what is going on here! Please use the FORUM for comments on this matter, however check out this reader's analysis of comparison results. With representations likely to approach 1000 on this application from the small village communities surrounding this quarry, something doesn't ring true. The residents of Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill have VOCIFEROUSLY OPPOSED THIS QUARRY AND THE IMPACT OF IT'S TRAFFIC FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS!! SOMEONE told them that if they wholeheartedly SUPPORT the new (70 year) planning application to expand the quarry, introduce a NEW blockmaking plant (WITH APPROX 80 LORRIES A DAY), the resultant increase in traffic, IT WILL GO AWAY!!!! What do you think? Let us know on THE FORUM.
November 2010 New TESCO opens, and traffic is constant. Imagine all the lorries too! Latest News and information! New! Objections, and How to Object page uploaded, see new "Blue " button left. Easy to download letters which you can edit or simply print out, put address in box and sign at bottom. The best way to find out what is happening is to discuss it with neighbours, and possibly some may not have internet access so they may not even know. If you feel very strongly about the impact on our community and want to actively make others aware, please email us for further info including posters and artwork which you can post in a window or distribute around neighbours.
Look at these trucks passing on wide streets and junctions imagine this on the narrow tight junctions through Lesmahagow. It can't be done Two 44 tonne trucks passing each other on our roads have to give way, and take turns as this manoevre is not possible on our roads. At the Tesco junction the road has had it's width reduced to make 3 lanes, there may be problems ahead. Will they give way to You???? Is this what you want to meet emerging from Tesco???
October 2010 Paterson's Quarry Application CL/10/0454 is NOW REGISTERED! (13th Oct 2010). (Copy the CL No. above then double click on it to go to SLC planning site, scroll down then paste number into "Application No.") If unsure go to Objections page and follow full step by step instructions on there. To read (save it to your machine for later, or to print out) the section with the greatest impact to the villagers of Lesmahagow; click here " Volume1 Section 09 Traffic" (quite a large file, may take around a minute to download. (It is blank on 1st page so scroll or page down to read). We are surprised to see the traffic plan below, as, following a recent meeting with Susan Morton of SLC Roads, who said that the council would require a road (not the corridor) 6.75mt wide along the whole carriageway, and that passing places would not be acceptable. Also have a look at the recently uploaded photo album of just one day with The Dunduff Quarry Traffic coming down the proposed "NEW" route! DUNDUFF QUARRY RE-ROUTING PLANNING PROPOSALLanark Gazette Article - 10/06/2010(June 2010: these pages are being uploaded daily, come back regularly for updates. Please use your VOTE and the FORUM at the bottom of the page and contact your councillor/ MSP if you feel you will be affected). This Planning Application has now been submitted (Thursday 13-08-2010). It had been scheduled to be around July 12th 2010. Please Note that the applicants name has been changed from Paterson's to Kemp Lindsey. The Application No. is CL/10/X0433/NEW A new button will appear "LATEST" with further news on this SOON! Due to minor technical error on the Paterson's Application, the registration of it has been revised to week commencing 4th October 2010. Check back here for updates near that date.
Position as of June 2010: Currently it is in the last few weeks of the consultation stage, during which objections concerning environmental impact can be submitted to the Planning consultants for consideration prior to the Planning application being submitted. There are issues why it has only come to our attention, NOW! Puting that aside, they may become valid reasons for delaying this application until common sense prevails. Current Route of TrafficCurrently routed through Boghead, Kirkmuirhill and Blackwood passing through residential and retail areas and directly passing 2 of the 3 primary schools. (see separate maps page blue button on left Nav bar). Expansion of QuarryPaterson's have recently acquired several acres which will allow increased production for approx a further 30 years. LANDFILLWe need to seek re-assurance that no intention nor future planning proposal will be considered for landfill on this site. Lesmahagow.com has had an assurance from George Stewart of Johnson, Poole and Bloomer, Paterson's Planning Consultants that this particular quarry is too deep to be considered for landfill. There will be a comprehensive section in their Planning Application when submitted regarding the restoration of the site. He outlined that it would be enviromentally sympathetically grassed and would include view points and walkways Proposed New RouteDue to pressure from the previously affected communities, Paterson's are applying to re-route the new traffic, some 18 lorries an hour (250 per day) down Strathaven Road into Teiglum road to join the motorway at J10 M74. This is just Paterson's lorries, there will be private contractors too. (see separate maps page blue button on left Nav bar). This is disastrous for Lesmahagow as their community will have to suffer what Kirkmuirhill has had to endure for the last 25 years or so. Traffic chaos at the new Tesco store and entering the town at Wellburn exchange is almost guaranteed, and it will reduce the value of all properties in the area drastically. No community should have to suffer this impact on their environment, property values, safety, health risk and standard of living. Ask anyone from Kirkmuirhill about the dust, mess and destruction of the roads. THERE IS NO NEED FOR THIS APPLICATION TO EVEN BE CONSIDERED. There are a number of routes to take the traffic direct to the main routes, without passing ONE SINGLE home! Alternative route map page!Click Image Planning Gone MAD!In the last two months along Strathaven road, planning approval has been granted for phase 1 of another development of residential housing, Wellburn Heights, across the road from the ever expanding Hillpark and Clannochdyke estates. Potentially 1000 homes with 250 lorries thundering down through the ONLY rural arterial road to all of these homes. And, of course the Tesco development at the bottom of Teiglum Road.. New Tesco StorePlanning was approved recently, with all the increased retail traffic entering and exiting the new Tesco from the existing Truck Stop entrance. Then add more than 250 heavy goods vehicles converging on that self same point?? Planning requirements for the new buildsThe planners demanded very strict requirements for the developers of individual plots along Strathaven Road to preserve the environment and the quiet rural aspect of the area, in particular as it was on the curtilege of village. So why now motorway level of HGV's? . What is the alternative? There is approx 9 years of the existing permissions for Paterson's to continue routing through Kirkmuirhill, so we must object strongly to our councillors, MSP's and MP's to delay planning approval until common sense prevails. . There are several routes that the lorries can take to AVOID BOTH COMMUNITIES. Click to go to Map Page. We do not wish to encumber Kirkmuirhill & Blackwood with this infringement on their right to a better and safer environment, one minute longer than necessary. . The communities of Lesmahagow, Kirkmuirhill, Blackwood and Boghead must stand together to rid our communities of this blight, and make the responsible councils see common sense, that this traffic MUST bypass all of our communities to enable a brighter future for us all.
