As a local resident who lives in a new development beside Strathaven Road I am deeply concerned about this possible disastrous situation (18 PATTERSON LORRIES PER HOUR QUARRY TRAFFIC). I have previously e-mailed Aileen Campbell MSP on receiving her Residents letter advising us of this situation which was the first I had heard of it (June 2010), and expressed to her my horror that this was even being considered by the Council. Why do the Council allow hundreds of new homes to be built for young families and the elderly, provide new road surfacing, and then consider putting very large, mucky and speedy lorries through the heart of this area? Children walking to school, playing with their friends and Residents walking their dogs, what danger will they be in from these trucks? Winters are very difficult in Lesmahagow and having to contend with these vehicles storming past daily would be a great hardship to both young and old.

Having lived here for 4-5 years now I see the amount of work which has been done during this time to upgrade areas in Lesmahagow ~ these lorries will destroy our environment. Mr William Patterson has the right to run his business but on reading his response to Aileen Campbell MSP who had written to him advising him of our concerns, he just wants to move the problem from Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill to Lesmahagow ~ and was he trying to make us feel sorry for him ~ I don't think so!!!

There must be a way to re-route these lorries via a by-pass to the Motorway which would allow residents to live their lives without 18 Patterson trucks per hour over many years causing mayhem and destruction.

We were all delighted on hearing about the new Tesco store being built on the old Truck Stop site (Teiglum Road) which will be a huge benefit to local residents and also outlying areas. Traffic congestion could be a nightmare if these trucks are allowed to take this route with also the increased number of public cars shopping in Tesco.

I sincerely hope the people of Lesmahagow come together to show their solidarity in opposing this application to use Strathaven Road/Teiglum Road as Patterson's only solution. Lesmahagow does not benefit financially from this (only Mr. W. Patterson), and I would be surprised if much employment would be generated by his Company in this area either.
A deeply concerned Lesmahagow resident.
