Now that the results are in, Karen Gillon ex MSP pays the ultimate price (politically) for the scandalous actions of the labour councillors, who disregarded their constituents. Aileen Campbell (first past the post) MSP gained an 8,000 vote swing (almost 100% increase).

This is the first election the I can remember in almost 40 years voting that I can remember communities discussing and campaigning locally regarding poor performance of their representatives.

Will these councillors learn that common sense applies in politics and that they are elected to represent us. Perhaps if they turned up at their surgeries and listened, they would learn from engagement with their constituents what is best for the community and not just them in their own little political worlds. Actually, I don't think so, as they jump in and ask questions later.

Why was this incinerator refused every where else? Why is there now such a big fuss referring the one in Newton Mearns to Scottish Government level? if Viridor had any sense they would apply to site it somewhere in Clydesdale, anywhere with a strong Labour vote, and get appproval easily!!!! (well at present anyway!).

The planning committee should not just be a rubber stamping exercise, but some sort of planning aspect should be involved, such as , does it fit in with the environment, does it preserve the aspect of the area, will it benefit the people impacted byit, will it support further beneficial development. Does it negatively impact any of the existing residents, and I mean the human ones, and if so can this be avoided. This is all just common sense. The list of considerations is endless and as such probably 50% of developments should be rejected but not here in labour controlled South Lanarkshire.

A group of councillors who can cause neighbouring communities to feud to transfer a problem from one community to another (see Dunduff Quarry application) is not worthy  of holding such a postion of trust... only 51 weeks to the local elections when I expect the people will speak again.

I have no inbred political bias, but being brought up in the steel industry have never wasted my vote, and usually supported you, but this time my vote actually counted. Goodbye Labour!

In fact, Good riddance.

The Polls open in just 5 minutes. Strong sentiment across Facebook, that Labour will suffer for the decision against Dovesdale. Check out the official AGADI Facebook site.

Over 20,000 constituents gave a clear mandate to their elected representatives and the result of that vote surprised over 20,000 constituents. I wonder if there will be any surprise with today's vote?

I hope also, that the councillors get the message and use their power in Planning Committee to refuse the whole Dunduff Quarry Application until a route away from ALL communities (including Lesmahagow, Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill) is employed, and any other similar application in our villages.

This strong sentiment on the FACEBOOK campaign may bring some sense to the situation that our local councillors have caused by supporting an application before it is submitted!

This is a "No Brainer"!  Really

AGADI had warned of fallout from this incinerator, ironic that the first fallout appears to be contaminating Labour who voted the application through against the 9 SNP No's.

Maybe democracy does work. Polling stations are open until 10pm tonight, such a long time to find out.

Hi Allan

I agree, what a rediculous demonstration of how undemocratic our council SLC is.

24,000 voters gave a clear mandate to our "elected officials" of our opinion on this matter, and what did they do. 9 SNP councillors voted against it, but 18 LABOUR councillors voted FOR, therefore a majority of 9 Labour councillors have landed all the constituents with this incinerator clearly against our wishes. I am not really a political individual, however it seems time to fight fire with fire.

WE NEED TO KICK THEM IN THE POLLS.

I will never VOTE LABOUR again, in fact I will vote tactically!.. and it is only a few weeks to the POLLS.

It was nice to see Aileen Campbell announce that she will see if there is action which can be taken to reverse the situation, bit I fear it is too late.

Our councillors should have followed the mandate that was clearly given via the 24,000 objections. I see this as a corrupt decision.

IF it wasn't bad enough that we are having to suffer all these financial cut backs that they left us with.

KICK THEM IN THE POLLS

Obviously none of these planning officers live close to here.
Money money money, thats all the council is about. Not green belt.... the smoking belt, the polluted belt it will now be known as.
Thank you SLC...... we trusted you would grant this, and you didnt let us down.....

I wonder what next peice of land the council will allow to be raped, exposed.

Can you imagine SLC countryside in 20years, desolate, wasteland, polluted....

Beyond belief. Im ripping here.

Family Rally-Sunday the 15th August-JOIN US!
This Sunday (15th August) is the Dovesdale Action Group's family rally.

Please join us from 1:30-2pm at the farm and trailer immediately adjacent to the application site, the location of which you already know.

Buses will be leaving the cross in Stonehouse at 1pm to take people down. People who wish to walk down together in a group can also join us at 1pm at the Tileworks Park in Stonehouse. If these travel options don't suit, we look forward to seeing you at the rally site from 1:30-2pm.

The rally will include a balloon release-children are welcome to participate.

The rally will also be an opportunity for the group photo that was promised many moons ago when the News of the World decided not to photograph the Action Group and its many supporters. Please come along to get your photo taken.

Please also bring your own placards and banners. Facepainting and dressing up is also welcome. There will be a prize for the best and most creative banner or placard-so get your thinking caps on!

Our website has posters that people can print off and attach to placards for those that don't have time to be creative. You can also attach them to T-shirts to help make an eye-catching photo.

Sensible footwear is also advised.

So please bring everyone you know-neighbours, friends, children, family members, to help make this a memorable and important day! Animals are also welcome.

It is so important to show how strong our community spirit and passion on this crucial matter is, so we look forward to seeing everyone there. Hundreds of people are on our mailing list and we hope to have those hundreds joining us on Sunday. Please spread the word!

The information night tonight on this incinerator was very informative. If you were unable to manage but want to find out more, go to our Waste Incinerator page (2nd top Left) and there is a link to their site at the bottom of the page. You can download an objection letter , put your name, address in box on P 1, then sign at bottom of page 2. Remember it is one letter for every member of the household. Drop completed forms into, Billy's Shop, Resource Centre or Dynamic Chemicals, at Teiglum Rd before 23rd August preferably. Letters can still be submitted after this date but 23rd is an important date, when you read abot this you will be bursting to sign and submit objection.

I attended a meetin re above in Lesmahagow last night. Having read about the huge turnouts at Stonehouse (over 1000), Larkhall (400+), I was shocked to find just 5 other people turned up. This small group have volunteered to knock every door in Lesmahagow with objection letters (over 1000 homes to visit each over the next few days, so expect a visit.

I learned so much! It is possibly terrifying!

There is an exhibition next MONDAY EVENING, 9th August at the Old Parish church, Church square between 6.30 - 9.30pm. Drop in anytime.

Hope to get more info uploaded to our page, but there is a link to their website.

This is a DON'T MISS IT EVENT.

PS If anyone else would like to help distribute leaflets, objection letters anywhere in the village, Please PM me , post here or email the website and I will put you in contact with the volunteer for your area.

The company behind this is from Dumfries. The built a wee small one on their dorr step that does about 60,000 tonnes a year, now the one they want to build in lanarkshire is 160,000 a year. If the big one isnt good enough for their own back garden, its certainly not welcome in my back garden!!
