STOP PRESS: DECISION PASSED! 24,000 constituents submit objections!! 18 Labour councillors rebuke constituents mandate and vote " FOR ". Lanarkshire Incinerator Gets Go-Ahead, Councillors go against the wishes of their constituents!!! imagehere Despite thousands of locals signing a petition against it - council bosses have given the go-ahead for a waste incinerator to be built in in a Lanarkshire beauty spot. Scotgen plan to build the facilty near Stonehouse. 20,000 people backed a campaign to stop it and many gathered outside the local authority's headquarters this morning in a bid to persuade council bosses to turn down the request. One of the protesters Linsay Powell said: "A lot of people live in this area for one reason and one reason only and that is the fact that it's gourgeous. "It's an important area but I think the issue is not to think you don't want it to be in your area because you love your area but I think the issue is that incineration technology has so many negative aspects against it. "There are huge health concerns, there's been information about birth defects, real strong issues and that's the ground other councils have taken to refuse the incinerator proposals." The land where Scotgen will build the facility is greenbelt land as well as an area of environmental interest. imagehere South Lanarkshire Council's Planning Committee said councillors listend to reports from representatives against the proposals as well as a detailed report from the Head of Planning before councillors voted on the recommendation. Fourteen members of the committee voted in favour - nine voted against. Protestor Margaret McNeil said: "I think if everyone finds out how their own councillor has voted they'll find themselves not back in at the elections. It'll be like the village of the damned." Celia Tennant was also outside the Council's HQ, she said: "It's just unbelievable they'll have an incinerator in green belt land amongst grazing cows throuwing off lots of toxins, dioxins, which affect our children, children born with genetic abnormalities. "It's unbelievable - and these are our elected members - 14 people for, 24 thousand people in the community against." Nora Carmichael lives near the Dovesdale site, she said: "It's absoultely disgusting, I don't know how they sleep at night, it's disgraceful. "It means that our grandchildren and out great-grandchildren will probably die early and no-one will be able to sell a house in Stonehouse." Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, said: "I share the massive disappointment and concern about this decision which will be felt by thousands of people in the Clydesdale area and beyond. "Labour-run South Lanarkshire Council have ridden roughshod over their own greenbelt policy, not to mention the opinion of the overwhelming majority of local residents who objected to this proposal. Hundreds of people from across the South of Scotland have told me they don't want this facility to be built, and I reflected that in my own objection to the Council. "Planning policies require this kind of application to be decided on at a local level. It's been clear from the very start that responsibility for making the decision would lie with the Council - not with SEPA, and not with the Scottish Government. "There is very little scope for Scottish Ministers to intervene, but I will be writing to the Government to see what options exist. "There can be no passing the buck. The Council could have rejected this application and instead once again it has chosen to support a developer rather than democracy."
As we have still been receiving a lot of requests about how the incinerator application is proceeding we have decided to update with applicable info. Developers reply 2 Files to SEPA objections. We will ask AGADI organisers opinion on this and if any further action required. Read them for yourself. Click Here: SEPA reply No1 Click Here: SEPA Reply No 2

INFORMAL, BROWSE THE INFO AND YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED. ALSO PICK UP AN OBJECTION LETTER. We are only just starting to gather information here on www.lesmahagow.com regarding the incinerator, but trying to support the action group with spreading their word. The Planning Application has now been lodged with SLC.
Some of our members have identified and suggested that it is strangely coincidental that the council appear to wish to divert the traffic away from the proposed incinerator site, via a route with a huge impact on domestic, residential, commuters and school children, conflicting with two of their most recently approved plans, Wellburn Heights a new residential development, and, Tesco, approved particularly for their environmentally friendly "pedestrian capture sector of this rural village, un-impeded by cars”.
The planners decide to route 250+ 40 tonne trucks per day down this route, BIZARRE!
Their only justification can be to reduce the traffic IMPACT on the Kirkmuirhill - Larkhall section of the road. By reducing the impact here facilitates the approval of the Toxic Waste Incinerator between Stonehouse, Larkhall, Kirkmuirhill & Blackwood.
Planning Gone MAD!!!
Fortunately the order of these applications has merit.
Should the Lesmahagow re-routing application fail, then possibly so also, may the toxic waste incinerator application.
